Osceola County's Community Development program develops and maintains programs that facilitate community and economic development.  The program's objectives are to;

 

     Retain existing jobs and create new jobs by assisting local businesses and industry already in Osceola County.

   ■  Create new jobs by attracting and assisting new businesses and industry to Osceola County.
   ■  Increase private sector investment and tax base in Osceola County.
   ■  Develop, coordinate, and deliver community development plans and programs that improve the quality of life in Osceola County.

In order to accomplish its objectives the community development program has established twelve essential functions;

1.  Conducts, in conjunction with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, a Business Retention and Expansion program for manufacturers in Osceola County.

2.  Assists, occasionally with assistance from Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Centers, both existing and start-up small businesses.

3.  Conducts a Business Attraction Program.

4.  Serves as Coordinator of the Osceola County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.  Responsible for all aspects of the Brownfield Program.

5.  Develops and maintains County plans; such as the County Land Use Plan, Recreation Plan, Planning Commission Ordinance, and others.

6.  Responsible for developing and maintaining the Osceola County website.

7.  Serves as Local Administrator of the Osceola County Housing Rehabilitation Program.  Responsible for all aspects of the Housing Rehabilitation Program.

8.  Represents Osceola County’s interests on regional committees, such as Michigan Works West Central, Workforce Development Board, West Michigan Regional Planning Commission, West Michigan Economic Development Collaborative and others as assigned.

9.  Assists local units of government with community development related issues.

10.  Makes presentations to various boards and groups to inform and educate them on business or community development projects and opportunities.

11.  Assists community organizations by providing research, grant writing, and other community and economic development related tasks, as appropriate.

12.  Performs the role of facilitator for various governmental and community strategic planning functions.
